Dual Enrollment Survey, Legislation Update

Kathy Holland and Ken Taira, AFIC co-chairs

Adjunct Faculty Issues Committee

Hello Adjuncts!

We hope that your semester is going well. The Adjunct Faculty Issues Committee (AFIC) is working hard on your behalf. Coming soon will be survey for those of us adjuncts who teach Dual Enrollment classes. The purpose is to formulate some Guild language that will strengthen our work environment when teaching in locations off campus.

Your AFIC co-chairs are available should you have any questions regarding EDD unemployment issues. This is a free service that we are happy to provide to all Guild members. Not a member? Contact us or go to the website, www.aft1521.org for an online membership form.

Included in this issue of Real News are links to two important charts. The first is a Notification Timeline that informs us of when offers of assignments, bumping, evaluations, etc. are due. The timeline includes where in our bargaining agreement (AKA the contract) you can find the contractual language. The second is the Evaluation Checklist. Those of you being evaluated this semester can use this checklist to make sure your contractual rights are protected. If there are any violations, notify your campus Chapter President or Grievance Rep immediately.

Legislation News: There are two bills in the state legislature that, if passed, will affect adjuncts. The first is a CFT bill on the 67% law. AB897 proposes changing the 67% limit to 80-85%. The second is AB706, which proposes eliminating the three-year time limit for transferring your unused sick leave from one district to another. We will keep you posted on the progress of these bills.
