Dear Union Family,
Thank you for your support in our recent Guild election. It was a long campaign, but now that the votes have been counted, it’s time for us to come together as one cohesive union and get to work on the transformative work we do.
Being elected as your president is truly an extraordinary moment for me.

In addition to president James McKeever, AFT 1521 welcomes back Executive Vice President William Elarton-Selig, and newly-elected Treasurer Xiao Behlendorf and Secretary Jennifer Galvez.
We are continuing to work on negotiations for our MOUs following COVID and the toll that will face staff and students if classes are cut.

The cost to attain a quality education is significant, as Local 1521 member Dr. Bettye Ford knows only too well.
Ford, a licensed clinical psychologist and adjunct professor at Southwest College, is looking forward to the day that she is free of her student loan debt. Her current total sits at $465,000.
